Mission Future(s) · A scouting programme by IF

Mission Future(s): The future can't be visited. It can be scouted.

Mission Future(s) is IF's scouting programme for the futures that matter to decisions made now. Twelve scouts set out from the Bloom towards twelve destinations, and every Monday one comes back with a return: a document from a world that could exist, with the real signals that make it plausible.

The Bloom · not a feed: a system

Everything IF senses, in one world

The Bloom is more than ten years of continuous scanning by Paulo Soeiro de Carvalho and IF, now taken further by a hybrid intelligence: people setting the questions and judging what matters, AI models and agents working at a scale no team could reach alone. Every force and signal is categorised, organised by STEEP domain and by region, and read as a system, so the Bloom shows not only what is happening but how it connects.

  • 42,000+ forces and signals, from megatrends to the faintest weak signal
  • Every hour the Bloom expands, as new forces and signals arrive from the scan
  • Every week a metamorphosis: links form and fade, pathways strengthen, and sometimes a new region emerges

Twelve destinations

Futures worth exploring, each held as one question

A destination isn't a prediction. It is a direction worth exploring, fed by the regions of the Bloom whose forces move that way.

  1. The delegated workplace: What is a job when agents do the tasks?
  2. Contested intelligence: Who owns, rations and governs intelligence?
  3. The age of adaptation: How do we live well in a world past 1.5 °C?
  4. Power lines: Who controls the electrons, and at what price?
  5. Long lives, few births: What happens when people live to 100 and few are born?
  6. The engineered body: What becomes of care when biology can be engineered?
  7. A fractured order: How do firms and states act when the rules stop holding?
  8. Money, remade: What is money when debt binds and blocs split?
  9. The trust recession: How do societies decide when they no longer share the facts?
  10. New belongings: Where do people belong when lives are lived alone and chances diverge?
  11. Exposed cities: What does a city become under heat, water and movement?
  12. Infinite culture: Who makes a living from culture when content is endless?

Every Monday, a return

From the present to a world that could exist

The Bloom

The present, unfolding: everything IF senses, in one world of forces and signals, joined by links, gathered into regions, crossed by pathways.

Scouts

Each destination has a scout. It sets out from the Bloom, follows its pathways as far as the evidence goes, and imagines the world at the end of them.

Returns

Every Monday, one scout comes back with a document from that world (a notice, a job advert, a menu, a front page) and an Exploratory report.

The first return arrives on Monday 19 October 2026, and paid subscribers see it first.

Explore the Bloom

Follow a signal to everything it is linked to, see which regions grew this week, and travel through the Bloom in 3D, with the map one tap away.

Ask the Bloom

Ask your own question. The Bloom answers only from what IF has sensed and shows its evidence, its counter-signals and what it does not yet hold.

Take this with you

Every answer can leave with you: a one-page Bloom Card (PNG or PDF) or a seven-page Expedition Dossier (PDF, or HTML with a live mini Bloom).

Questions, answered

What is Mission Future(s)?

Mission Future(s) is IF's scouting programme for the futures that matter to decisions made now. It starts from the Bloom, a living world of more than 42,000 forces and signals. Twelve scouts head towards twelve destinations, and every Monday one comes back with a return.

Is a return a prediction?

No. A return is a document from a world that could exist, with the real signals that make it plausible. Its Exploratory report sets out the forces that would bring that world about, where it sits in the Bloom, and what it means for a decision today.

Where does the Bloom come from?

From more than ten years of continuous, monitored scanning by Paulo Soeiro de Carvalho and IF, now taken further by a hybrid intelligence of human experts, AI models and agents. Every force and signal is categorised (megatrend, trend, signal, weak signal or wildcard), organised by STEEP domain and by region, and read as a system.

How do I get access?

Until 30 November, Mission Future(s) is open only to paid subscribers of Scanning · Sensing · Acting, IF's Substack (€8 a month or €75 a year). Join by then and it stays part of your subscription until 30 November 2027. Sign in at mission.ifforesight.com with the email you use on Substack and we send you a sign-in link. New subscribers can step inside within a day.

What happens on 1 December?

From 1 December 2026, Mission Future(s) opens to everyone as a subscription of its own. Paid subscribers of Scanning · Sensing · Acting who joined by 30 November keep it as part of their Substack subscription until 30 November 2027, as long as they stay subscribed. A new Substack subscription from 1 December no longer includes it.

What can I do with Ask the Bloom?

Ask up to ten questions a day. Each answer comes with its evidence, the forces and signals that pull against it, an optional web check, and two ways to take it with you: the Bloom Card and the Expedition Dossier.
